The blogging and social networks are gaining ground rapidly in emerging markets

TNS, a research company Ad-Hoc world's largest, has lanzasdo the most extensive research project on global activity and online behavior of individuals: Digital Life. With coverage reaching nearly 90% of the worldwide online population over 50,000 interviews with consumers in 46 countries, the study reveals significant changes as well as online performance indicators for the future.

"This study covers more than twice the market than any other research of this kind," said Matthew Froggatt, Chief Development Officer of TNS. "It is only the first truly global study on online activity, including all key emerging markets of BRIC and many of the Next 11 (the next 11 largest economies in the XXI century), but also extends beyond the behavior basic detailed to gather information about attitudes and emotional drivers that motivate behavior. "

"We believe the results of the investigation Digital Life, will become the new benchmark for information about online behavior of consumers," he continued explaining Froggatt. "Sharing of the information publicly is a very important first step for us but also we have a large amount of data that exceed these initial surveys, covering the vast digital landscape, attitudes towards brands and the" path to purchase "which will be offered to our customers."

Among the key facts that were revealed are the following:

Globally, between those who have Internet access, digital media are preferred. 61% of online consumers use the Internet every day versus 54% of TV, radio 36% and 32% newspapers.

Internet users in the rapidly developing markets exceed those of developed countries in terms of their involvement (engagement) with the digital activities. When we look at the behavior found in emerging markets such as Egypt (56%), China (54%), Brazil (48%), Argentina (45%) and Mexico (40%) present levels of engagement with much higher digital activities that in mature markets like Japan (20%), Denmark (25%) and Finland (26%). This occurs even when mature markets have developed digital infrastructure.

The blogging and social networks are gaining ground rapidly in emerging markets. Research shows that 9 out of 10 users online in China (88%) and more than half of Brazilian users (51%) have written in your own blog or made postings in forums, compared to only 32% in the together. And among the Argentines? 4 out of 10 Internet users (41%) reported having had some kind of blogging in our country. On the other hand, Internet has also become the default option for sharing photos between online users in rapidly developing markets, particularly in Asia. The proportion of online consumers has uploaded photos to social networking websites for sharing images is 92% in Thailand, Malaysia 88%, 87% in Vietnam, while developed markets are more conservative. Less than a third of online consumers in Japan (28%) and less than half of German users (48%) have uploaded photos to these sites. A Latin Americans are not far behind in sharing your pictures online so: 8 out of 10 Brazilians (80%), Argentina (79%) and Mexicans (78%) say they have uploaded their photos to social networks or specific websites.

The growth of social networking has been enhanced by the transition from PC to mobile device use. Mobile device users spend on average 3.1 hours per week on social networks, contrasting the 2.2 hours spent emailing. These figures increase significantly in Latin America: if we take the example of Argentina, we see that local mobile users spend 6.7 hours on social networks versus 4.7 hours sending mails. The push toward mobile devices is rooted in the need for immediate gratification and the ability of social networks offer different formats of messages, including instant messages or update features. In projecting how they would alter the digital landscape in the future, research shows that users expect to increase their consumption of social networks via mobile device rather than through the PC. In the U.S., for example, a quarter (26%) of online consumers believe an increase in their use of social networks through their computers as opposed to over a third (36%) that expect to increase the use of cell for that purpose. In Australia, the values are 26% and 44% respectively, and in Sweden, 28% and 53%.

Email goodbye, hello social networks

Another research finding is that online consumers are, on average, spending more time on social networks like Facebook and LinkedIn in your e-mail accounts, even if only became the first mass in some markets in recent years .

In rapidly developing markets like Latin America, Middle East and China, the average time spent per week on social networks is 5.2 hours compared with only 4 hours in the mail. Online consumers in mature markets remain more aware of their e-mails, from checking their boxes 5.1 hours versus 3.8 hours on social networks. The major consumers of social networks are in Malaysia (9 hours per week), Russia (8.1 hours per week) and Turkey (7.7 hours per week).

The time to see who has more friends online consumers in Malaysia lead with an average of 233 friends in their social networks, closely followed by Brazilians with 231. The least involved are from Japan with only 29 friends and the Tanzanians who have on average 38 friends. Surprisingly, the Chinese have an average of only 68 friends in their networks, even when they have a high intake of social networking sites, which shows a culture that values the friendly relations to a lesser extent, but closer. In the case of Argentina, the Internet typically have an average of 184 friends, but lower than the average Brazilian is somewhat higher than Mexico's, 126 friends on social networks.

Froggatt said: "The Internet is a very important part of life in the XXI century, but how it affects our lives varies depending on where in the world where we live. We have seen that in mature markets where people are connected for years and where access is unlimited, the Internet has become a comodity that consumers take for granted. However, in rapidly developing markets in which investment in infrastructure is recent and sustained users adopt this new channel in a much more active. The digital world is transforming the way they in which they live, develop and interact online and consumers of these markets are outpacing those of developed markets in terms of online activity and participation in new forms of communication."

The Social Media Marketing strategies are not free and have a real cost

---

---

It is customary to read many references about the advantages of marketing and communication strategies through media and social networks. On many occasions, with references to case studies of companies that have turned to sites like Facebook or Twitter with strategic and commercial objectives.

Across the board usually be emphasized that among the main advantages of marketing strategies through this type of media is that it requires minimal investment and their costs are low compared to other marketing strategies. However, this is something that some experts do not fully agree.

In the opinion of Dave Evans, Social Marketing Consultant, "social media marketing is actually very expensive. Not in terms of how much money is spent, but in relation to how much time is spent interacting with customers."

In this sense, Evans said that the implementation of an advertising campaign through social networks requires a huge amount of time and although the registration to participate in these services is a fast, easy and free, most of the time spent in These strategies are primarily focused on generating new contacts and fans and interact with them in a continuous and daily.

If the head of a company starts a blog, then invest part of their time writing new entries and content that would otherwise devote to carry out major works, so what is the cost of time that person?

Without doubt, communication strategies and marketing through social media can be incredibly beneficial when establishing conversations with customers. However, the time required to analyze the results, the performance of our actions and evaluate the ROI may require more time and other services, tools and resources, which ultimately makes evident the fact that the strategies developed through social media are not free and have a real cost.

Advergaming and in-game advertising to the rapidly expanding online media

---

---

Revenues from advertising on digital content (movies, television, publications, Internet, etc..) Have become a major source of monetization of new business models for digital content industry.

However, the game industry has become a new advertising medium for major brands. According to a study by Nielsen, ad spending related to gaming in the U.S. last year exceeded $ 823 million and according to research firm Yankee Group, marketers spent $ 56 million in advertising and product placement last year, a figure that during this year could reach $ 730 million.

The marketing and advertising in video game market is rising every day more interest among advertisers and media to promote campaigns. Many companies and brands know that mass channels are increasingly saturated and the search for new ways to reach the user and the consumer make the game both off line and online in an ideal channel to promote their products and advertising campaigns.

Added to this, technology and features of current video games on these carriers can operate under an experience "interactive multimedia" capable of generating a continuous exposure of users to the advertised brands.

That is why the high times of contact between the brand and the consumer of video games, fully interactive involvement with the advertisement and the structuring of communication at various levels of depth are among the factors that have led advertisers to consider the video game industry as a great advertising opportunity.

According to Nolan Bushnell founded the Atari company and one of the pioneers of the videogame industry "Americans spend on average 27 hours a week on television, while video games to spend about 7 or 8 hours per week.

This trend is also moving to online digital environment where video game market also continues to grow as interest from brands and advertisers who see this type of content a great opportunity to reach users and consumers through advertising .

It is important to note that Advergaming has benefited from a significant change in the habits and trends of users gamers with a profile that has evolved by increasing their average age over 35 years, which means that the public objective that can be made of the marketing campaigns and advertising is much broader than 5 years ago.

The extension of the video game market extends to the middle internet quickly as demonstrated by recent studies indicating that online games are already the favorite pastime of the Spanish.

Wiprojects, business incubator in the field of Internet, Media and Entertainment has conducted an online survey among users of different online gaming sites in Spain, Portugal and Brazil, UK, Latin America and the United States to learn the habits and preferences online games.
In Spain, 55% of the Spanish prefer to spend their spare time playing dead on the Internet instead of reading a good book (5%), watching television (18%) playing video games (10%) or listening to music (12% .) And that is the connection rate leaves no room for doubt. 75% of Spanish is connected to the Internet only to play more than three times a week. 15% between 1 and 3 times a week followed by a 7% more than 3 times per month and the remaining 3% from 1 to 3 times a month.

The increase in recent years of companies specializing in the development of advergames (WildTangent, Yaya, Blockdot, Skyworks, Virtools, etc.), The appearance of a macro in-game advertising network specialized (Massive), the use of the Web as a means entertainment, the migration of advertisers and the Internet's possibilities predict a very promising future strategies advergaming.

Companies like Google have invested heavily in online game development companies like Zynga, creator of the famous game Farmville Facebook that uses advertising as a revenue source.

Since there may be less, Apple is also one of the companies familiar with first hand the potential of integrated advertising Advergaming or video game thanks to the popularity of its iPhone and other products like the new iPad through which the Download games and applications is helping to generate large income to those who now join those that are generated through this type of advertising, thus making these devices throughout a bonanza for the mobile market Advergaming.

---
